Gym Buddy

We toured gyms over the weekend in hopes of finding a place where I can burn off some calories.  I am two days into a new diet and I am actually feeling great.  I played racquetball for the first time and dig it.  I am horrible at it, but I enjoy the concept.  Andrew tested out the pool while Blake and I tested out their courts.  Reade and Piper happily played in the pretend kitchen in the Kids Club for almost the whole hour.  I think our family is mature enough to do the gym thing again without too much whining and crying.

1 Down

Guess who lost his first tooth last night?
Not in kindergarten and almost not in first grade.  I am really happy that thing fell out (er, pulled out by dad) before school was out so he can show his friends.
Look at that cute Burton tooth.  The other kids inherited Westersund sized teeth which the Tooth Fairy might find difficult to haul off with her dainty wings.

More Books

I had Blake's parent/teacher conference and they are calling for more books.
It was really fun picking through some classics and newly written books.
It will only be a short time before he gets to pick everything he reads so I am running with it.
I came across this quote and love it.

Saturday Blake-Con

Welcome to the first installment of Blake creating a weekly comic for his friends and family.

"It was pretty fun to come up with the idea.  I was thinking of monsters because I was reading a monster book I have.  Why don't I make a monster comic.  I started it and it came out pretty funny because I explained it to my mom in the car.  And then I had another idea and I was gonna write about it, but I forgot about it.  Now, I got the monster comic out."

Here are some pictures from last weekend's trip to Camp Orkila.

My kids in the forest:

Riflery with mommy:

Piper got to ride a big horse for the first time.  She loosened up by the end of the ride!:

Some crazy parents and kids gathered for a Polar Bear Swim:

Saturday night was the campfire and I was so impressed with everyone's talent.  Here is one of Kapka's finest fiddling:

The dad in this family is a professional drummer in a local band and his daughter's angelic voice was amazing when they did this folk duo:

Andrew got to join in the fun for a tribute to the mothers by the Kapka dads:

Camp Orkila

On a ferry heading up to camp.  The kids woke up at 5:50am and were ready to roll.  Took me another 7 hours to get us out of the house.  We are with other families from Blake's school.  Happy weekend to you.

Salmon Release 2015

Blake's school nurtured salmon eggs into fishies and did their yearly Salmon Release in West Seattle.  The fish will grow for a year and then naturally head out to the Puget Sound.  The glasses Blake and Reade are wearing are polarized so they can see the fish underwater after they release them.

What do you do after releasing salmon?  Willing parents/kids head to the beach and eat a yummy salmon meal of course!

May Day'd

Piper's preschool had a May Day Walk.  They walked around the neighborhood and gave the neighbors flowers to say "thanks for being a great neighbor."  The kids melted my heart, as well as the neighbor's hearts.

Some kids were bashful and this is as
far as the flowers made it.

This neighbor said she was so
excited to receive May Day flowers
since she hadn't had any in
a very long time.
